Ent tax structure HC upheld state stand
18th Sep 2008 - 10:30am
The
Karnataka High Court on Wednesday upheld the Karnataka government's stand
on charging 50 percent entertainment tax on non Kannada films and leaving
the Kannada films free from Entertainment Tax. The Karnataka Film Chamber
of Commerce President Dr.Jayamala welcomed the decision of the High Court.
This is a major push to regional languages in Karnataka said Dr.Jayamala.
It may be recalled a section of exhibitors in Karnataka have questioned the Karnataka government decision of Entertainment Act of
1958 Section 4 (where in Kannada, Tulu, Konkani, Kodava and Banjara have been given 100 percent Entertainment Tax exemption) and appealed to the High Court to have a uniform Entertainment Tax structure.
